BASI Coach – Ski

I’ve been skiing since I was 4, racing since I was 11, coaching since 16, and now SSC Head Coach since 2021. I grew up spending most weekends of the winter training at Glenshee, based out of the SSC hut on the Sunnyside, and have grown to love all things Scottish skiing.

I competed internationally for four years at FIS level whilst studying at Heriot-Watt University. I wasn’t the most decorated ski racer by any means, but I loved the whole process: ski training, fitness training, ski prep, travelling around Europe and being with my teammates. I gained so much from those experiences and I want to pass that on to the younger generations and keep them engaged in snow skiing!

Nowadays I’m also still involved in student snowsports, running competitions at all levels including for British University and College Sport (BUCS).

BASI Alpine L2 Instructor
UKSS Alpine L2 Performance Coach

I have been skiing since I was 3 years old and actively involved with coaching since 16. I have coached both in Scotland and internationally, with the bulk of my work at home with LSR. While I was growing up I spent most of my weekends training with SSC at Cairngorm.

Getting a love of ski racing from a young age I travelled around Europe competing at multiple international events. Since finishing my racing career, I have finished two degrees at university as well as moving into coaching. Through my coaching work I have found a passion in passing on the knowledge I have gained to the next generation of ski racers.

Adult Race Training Coach

Qualifications:
UKSS Alpine L3 Head Coach

I have been involved in coaching racers for 35 years and started racing & training myself when I was about 11. I competed full time on the FIS circuit as part of the British Citadin Squad all over Europe, travelling and living in a campervan.

When I retired from racing I started coaching at club level and quickly became the Head Coach at Cairngorm Ski Club.  After spending a season away from coaching as a race organiser I was head hunted by SSC to be the Head Coach, with many of my trainees gaining selection onto British and Scottish Teams.

In 2023 I was selected to coach the Scottish Team for the ISF World Schools Games. I now enjoy coaching young adults, Masters racers and bringing on aspiring coaches and am qualified to mentor Level 1 & Level 2 Trainee coaches through their qualifications to become fully licenced coaches.  Outside of skiing I raced XC mountainbikes and road bikes internationally, and I love many watersports. I am also a MIAS Level 2 mountainbike leader and a PADI diving instructor.

From first skiing aged 3, I fell in love with the sport and have had over 15 years of racing experience. I started out at Hillend, before progressing to training and racing in the Scottish mountains and across Europe. After three years of FIS racing, I made the move to coaching. I gained so many great friendships, skills and life experiences from growing up ski racing, and it has been great to contribute to younger athletes having a similar experience!
